Is Your Sexual Assault Attorney Also a Sexual Assault Survivor?

Here is something that many people may not think of when considering whether to retain a particular sexual assault attorney to represent them in their civil claims against those responsible for their assault. And that is that the attorney you are talking with may also have experienced sexual assault, either during their childhood or as an adult. As Marlo Greer points out in her video on this topic, many attorneys who choose to work in this challenging area of the law have been in their clients’ shoes.

This can be very important when you are still deciding whether to bring a sexual assault lawsuit. An attorney who has experienced sexual assault can give you the kind of clear advice you need so that you can make an informed decision about whether to bring a lawsuit. They will understand based on their own experience how difficult it can be to file and move forward with a lawsuit against your attacker or others responsible for your sexual assault. And having survived sexual assault themselves, they are not going to want to have you go through the process if they don’t believe, based on the facts of your case, that you are likely to recover fair compensation for what was done to you.

One thing you can do when you are talking to attorneys who represent sexual assault survivors in civil cases is to ask them whether they have personal experience with sexual assault. Lawyers who have chosen to work in this area are likely to be willing to share some information about their personal backgrounds with you, especially if doing so will help you have more confidence in the advice they are giving you.

The Greer Law Group Can Help You With Your Sexual Assault Case

If you have survived sexual assault, whether it was recently or many years ago, and are considering filing a lawsuit against those responsible for what you went through, the Greer Law Group is here to help. Our attorneys have years of experience helping sexual assault survivors make the often-difficult decision to sue their attackers. Once that decision is made, we know what it takes to file and vigorously pursue those cases until the matter has been resolved.

We know the steps to take to protect our clients during what can be a very difficult process. In some cases, for example, we can, with the court’s permission, file the lawsuit anonymously on your behalf. We can also take steps to prevent the defendant’s attempts to abuse the legal process by making unnecessarily broad, invasive, or retaliatory discovery requests.

We will never push you into making a decision whether to bring a lawsuit or not. That decision is always entirely yours to make. Our role when you are still considering a lawsuit is to make sure you have all of the information you need to make your decision, and to be there to answer your questions along the way.

To learn more about how the Greer Law Group can help you explore the possibility of bringing a lawsuit for sexual assault, contact us at 303-331-6460 or fill out our contact form. We will schedule a free case evaluation to discuss your case, answer your questions, and help you make the decision that is right for you.

Description: In many cases, attorneys who help sexual assault survivors sue their attackers may have survived sexual assault themselves

One thing to consider when you are thinking about bringing a lawsuit for sexual assault is whether your attorney has personal experience with surviving sexual assault. Many attorneys who devote themselves to helping clients recover compensation for sexual assault were themselves abused.

Why is this helpful? If the attorney has a shared experience of sexual assault, they are more likely to be able to give you advice about your own case that recognizes the unique challenges that come with these kinds of cases. Having to relive what happened to you can be very difficult, and it helps if the attorney you are working with has a personal understanding of what your legitimate concerns may be when it comes to bringing a lawsuit against those responsible for your sexual assault.

Marlo Greer talks about this in more detail in her video on this very topic. Click the link in the comments to see it, and contact the Greer Law Group if you have questions or want to discuss your case.
